A Journey Toward Affirmation of Faith
The journey began at baptism…
In Christian love your parents and sponsors present their children for Holy Baptism. They promised to faithfully bring them to the services of God’s house, and teach them the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments. As children grow in years, adults promise to place in their hands the Holy Scriptures and provide for their instruction in Christian faith, that, living in the covenant of their Baptism and in communion with the Church, they may lead godly lives until the day of Jesus Christ (Lutheran Book of Worship p. 121, adapted).
Our share ministry offers a two-year program of Christian education that prepares middle-school students to publicly affirm the promises made at the time of their baptism. It is a process of gaining a deeper understanding of God’s love, our relationship with God, God’s people, and God’s creation.
It is a time of discovery…a time of growth…a time for questioning…a time for listening to the faith stories of parents, mentors, and classmates.
Confirmation is a time of studying scripture, our Lutheran heritage, and how we are called to be the hands and feet of God as we serve all of God’s people.
The Program
The program consists of a two-year rotating course of study, service, and spiritual growth. Each year the focus of study will be Old Testament, New Testament, or the Small Catechism. Each student will receive instruction in each focus area before they complete the program.
