Confirmation Faith in Life Projects - April 11, 2018

On April 11, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. students will share their faith stories with parents of other confirmation students, their mentors, and Pastor Karen.

Their faith life has been influenced by their parents, family, friends, other adults, Sunday School education, and other life experiences.

Confirmation is a time for students to think about how life experiences as well as our class time, service events, sermon notes, and Sunday morning participation opportunities have affected their faith. Faith and Life Projects should focus on their faith journey.

Students should think about what is important to them considering all the book and life lessons they have experienced throughout the year. These projects will not be judged or graded, but they will be shared with people who care about the students and their Christian life.  Being true to who they are as young people of faith is the most important part of the project. Including the struggles or questions they still have about your faith makes for a very real project.

Each student should make an appointment with Pastor Karen before or after a midweek Lenten service in March to spend 15 minutes talking about their ideas for a project. Mentors and parents are encouraged to guide and support students in the selection and creation of their project.

A project may be written, multi-media, creative or crafty, and should exhibit your own uniqueness and your understanding of living as a Christian in today’s world.

In the past students have used their own individual personalities to guide the design of their project. For instance, one student worked with her grandmother, mother and other family members to make a quilt where each square represented an important part of her faith life (family, baptism, dedication, church experiences, etc.). Another student who like to play baseball/softball use a baseball diamond to indicate the steps she had made so far in her faith journey knowing that “home” was a place of eternal life.

Remember that this year we have been studying the Old Testament.  These lessons can and should be a part of each student’s project. If you and your student would like to talk about ideas and possibilities, please be in touch. I am happy to meet with you whenever possible.
